First Steps for a Small Water Leak at Home
A small leak can come from a tap, a visible connection or a pipe. If water is spreading, move items away and use a towel or container to limit damage. If you can safely reach the nearest water shut-off valve, close it and note which fixture it controls.
Keep water away from electricity
If water is close to an outlet, appliance or electrical panel, do not touch the wet area or electrical equipment. Keep people clear and seek qualified help. If there is immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency service.
Describe what you see
Note where the water appears, whether it continues after the valve is closed and when you first noticed it. Avoid dismantling pipes or fixtures if you are unsure how they connect.
